BRI Chairman Featured Speaker at Asian Pacific Poultry Conference

Jason Shih, Ph.D. to Share Insights on Feed Additives and Waste Reduction

 

Raleigh, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/28/2011 -- BioResource International, Inc. (http://www.briworldwide.com), a North Carolina agricultural biotechnology company, announces today that Chairman and Co-founder Jason Shih, Ph.D. will be the opening speaker in the first plenary session of the Asian Pacific Poultry Conference (http://www.appc2011.tw). The conference is being held at the Taipei International Convention Center in Taiwan March 20-23, 2011. More than 500 scientists and researchers from around the world are in attendance.

Organized by the World’s Poultry Science Association (http://www.wpsa.com), the event is focusing on recent advances in poultry research and the benefits to food safety, environmental-friendly breeding and animal welfare.

Dr. Shih, a 2008 WPSA Research Award winner, was selected as a featured speaker because of his contributions to the global poultry industry. He has three decades of research and development experience in areas ranging from biogas production to feather hydrolysis to poultry nutrition. As a professor in the Department of Poultry Science at North Carolina State University, Dr. Shih conducted research in anaerobic waste digestion and feather degrading enzymes. He has published more than 100 scientific papers, books and book chapters on his research, and holds nine international patents. Eight of these patents are the basis for founding BioResource International, Inc. in 1999.

About Jason Shih, Ph.D.
Dr. Shih, a native of Hunan, China, has also been a longtime advocate for building Sino-American relationships. Dr. Shih accompanied North Carolina Governor James Hunt on his first mission to China in 1998. In the years since, he has traveled extensively between North Carolina, China and Taiwan, serving as an Adjunct Professor at China Agricultural University in Beijing from 2003-05 and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Academica Sinica in Taiwan since 2007.

Dr. Shih retired from North Carolina State University in 2009 after 33 years of service. He and his wife, Jane Shih, split their time between Taipei, Taiwan and their home in Cary, North Carolina.
