Nationally syndicated radio host Erich "Mancow" Muller, known to his millions of listeners as "Mancow," has joined with the award-winning author of Hey Buddy Gary W. Moore and Peggy Sue Gerron (the Peggy Sue who inspired the hit song "Peggy Sue") calling for Dwyer Flying Service to release the hidden wreckage of the Beechcraft Bonanza that crashed in a frigid Clear Lake, Iowa cornfield on February 3, 1959 killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson, and pilot Roger Peterson.
Appearing on The Mancow Experience radio show on March 17, Moore and Peggy Sue discussed the controversies, conspiracies, and myths surrounding the crash that Don McLean dubbed as "The Day the Music Died" in his hit song "American Pie."
In the interview, Mancow said, "Today I am calling for the reopening of the investigation. . . . What happened? Let's get this thing started."
While researching for his book Hey Buddy, Moore uncovered new information about the doomed charter flight that took off in bad weather with an inexperienced 21-year-old pilot. Himself a pilot, Moore is calling for a team of experts to re-evaluate the crash and plane wreckage based on recent claims from the owners of the plane that they have the wreckage and the truth behind what happened that fateful night has never been told.
"They claim that the truth has never been told, that they hold the wreckage, and that the truth is in the wreckage," Moore says. "If that's true, I've assembled a team of investigators, one of them a now retired lead investigator from the National Transportation Safety Board, who wants to examine the wreckage. And so we're asking them to just give us access to it."
Peggy Sue agrees, "I would like very much for that to happen."
