Laboratory Testing Inc. Now Performs Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) is now performed at Laboratory Testing Inc. for analysis and identification of base polymers and additives in materials. FTIR spectroscopy also indicates the amount of material present and is therefore an excellent tool for both qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Hatfield, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/27/2011 -- Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) continues to expand its line of materials testing services with the recent addition of Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) services. FTIR is an analytical technique used to identify organic, polymeric, and in some cases, inorganic materials. LTI is performing the analyses with a high-tech Thermo Scientific Nicolet iS10 FT-IR spectrometer.

Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis results in an absorption spectra which provides information about the chemical bonds and molecular structure of a material. Absorbance peaks provide information that can be used to identify the general types of material being analyzed. The analytical spectrum can be compared with cataloged reference spectra to identify base polymers and additives.

FTIR analysis compliments the wide-range of instrumental and wet chemistry services performed in the Chemistry Lab at LTI for materials characterization and failure analysis. In addition to identification of polymers by FTIR, qualitative and quantitative element analysis, even at trace levels, is available for a variety of materials including metals, powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites and ceramics. Laboratory Testing Inc. is fully capable of preparing test specimens for all analysis.

About Laboratory Testing Inc.
Laboratory Testing Inc. (LTI) of Hatfield, PA has been in business since 1984. The company specializes in materials testing, specimen machining, failure analysis, dimensional inspection and calibration services. The lab is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 by PRI/Nadcap and A2LA, which complies with and exceeds the requirements of ISO 9001 and ISO 13485.

Chemical, mechanical, metallurgical and nondestructive testing are performed on metals found in fasteners, tubing, pipe, barstock, plates, castings and other products. The chemistry lab performs ICP-Mass spectroscopy, ICP-AES spectroscopy, Direct Reading AES, trace element analysis, SEM-EDS and corrosion testing and also analyzes powdered metals, ores, ferroalloys, composites, plastics and ceramics. Mechanical testing covers tensile, hardness, charpy V-notch, stress rupture, proof load, bend, yield strength and more. A wide-range of metallurgical testing services are provided including microscopic, macroscopic and microhardness examinations for grain size measurement, coating thickness measurement, case depth, alpha case, surface contamination, microstructure and many more. Nondestructive testing services include ultrasonic testing, magnetic particle inspection, liquid penetrant inspection, X-ray inspection, visual inspection and hydrostatic pressure testing. LTI has the capabilities to test metals and other materials for strength and durability, flaws and defects and to determine composition and susceptibility to corrosion. Failure analysis testing can be performed to determine the root cause of an unexpected failure in a product or part that was designed to operate under specific service conditions. A detailed report explains the cause of the failure and can provide information on preventing future occurrences. The testing area also inspects welds for welder and procedure qualification. LTI's machining division prepares test specimens for mechanical testing, including stress rupture tests. All services are performed using computerized numerical control (CNC) equipment in accordance with ASTM A-370, ASTM E-8 or ASTM E-23 requirements and customer specifications. Dimensional inspection is performed on surface and specialty features of machined products and parts. The calibration lab, LTI Metrology, provides dimensional, pressure, force, torque, electrical, temperature, mass and vacuum calibrations for measuring tools, gages, standards and measuring equipment. LTI also offers field services for surface plates, CMMs, optical comparators, hardness testers, balances, measuring tools, and testing machines. Orders for flow and humidity calibrations can be subcontracted to the company's audited vendors. As a representative for Glastonbury Southern Gage (GSG), Vermont Gage, Mitutoyo, Boston Centerless, Swanson Tool and Starrett, LTI can supply new gages, tools and replacement parts. Instrument repairs are available. Information on LTI services and accreditations is provided at http://www.labtesting.com or from sales@labtesting.com.
