Dr. Michael Epstein was recently interviewed by the eHealth Podcast on various aspects of rhinoplasty

Northbrook, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/02/2017 -- Recently, Dr. Michael Epstein, the founder of MAE Plastic Surgery in Northbrook, IL, was featured on the eHealth Radio Network to talk about rhinoplasty. Throughout his in-depth, detailed discussion, he addressed a variety of topics associated with this surgery including the different types of rhinoplasty, the recovery process, and potential side effects.

Dr. Epstein began the conversation by listing the different types of rhinoplasty surgery: open, closed, functional, cosmetic, hump reduction, tip refinement, or reconstructive.

Next, Dr. Epstein went on to detail the recovery process for rhinoplasty. Depending on which procedure a patient had, they may have an external or internal splint that will be removed within a week. There may be bloody drainage, but only for the first 24hours. Both bruising and swelling are normal, but will subside. Dr. Epstein follows his patients through their recovery process for about a year, ensuring they heal correctly. He recommends no heavy lifting for three weeks, and no contact sports of any kind for six to eight weeks.

As for complications associated with rhinoplasty, they are very rare, but can include bleeding, numbness, infection, trouble breathing, and alterations in someone's ability to smell.
