Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/16/2014 -- In 2013, sales of analgesics increased by 12% in current value terms, reaching R$4 billion. Following the same trend perceived in 2012 of double-digit growth, sales were mainly stimulated by the growing number of Brazilians leaving the low-income segment, and joining the middle-classes. These emerging middle class consumers have many duties every day, from going to work, taking care of the family, cleaning the house, and buying groceries, to name a few. As a result, they cannot let a health condition stop them from performing those activities. Due to this fact, every time these consumers feel any indication of muscular pain, headache or back pain, they purchase analgesics in order to obtain fast relief, so they can continue on with their activities.

Competitive Landscape

Sanofi-Aventis Farmaceutica remained as the leader of analgesics in 2013, with 19% current value share. Dorflex, one important brand from Sanofi-Aventis retained its leading position in combination products - analgesics with 28% value share in 2013.

Industry Prospects

Analgesics is predicted to post a value CAGR of 5% in constant 2013 prices during the forecast period. This growth is expected to be driven by the emerging middle-classes, who are increasingly concerned about wellbeing and how to treat minor conditions in an effective way. Robust marketing campaigns are expected in the next years in order to draw consumers, especially the emerging middle-classes, mostly driven by television and radio advertising and social media.
