Research Reveals the Brain-Healing Effects of Turmeric

Orlando, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/07/2015 -- Today, more and more people are resorting to a wide range of preventive measures just to reduce their risk of medical conditions. There are those who change their food preferences and engage in exercise, and there are also those who take nutritional supplements. Turmeric is one of the natural alternatives that has been gaining the trust of many health experts and individuals who suffer from certain conditions.

Research reveals the brain-healing effects of turmeric. This ancient, medicinal spice has long been used in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine. It is believed to combat an extensive range of illnesses, including the life-threatening ones.

"There are curcumin supplements available nowadays. Curcumin is a phytochemical of turmeric that contains anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antioxidant, and antibacterial properties," said Divine Bounty spokesperson, Melissa Scott.

Turmeric is believed to have the ability to heal itself. People can incorporate turmeric in their diet by adding the spice when preparing their dishes and beverages. It adds a distinctive flavor as well as color to food. People can also take advantage of curcumin supplements.

In a study published by the Stem Cell Research and Therapy, it was revealed that turmeric has the potential ability to repair itself. While curcumin is highly therapeutic, the researchers in the animal-based study found another turmeric compound called aromatic turmerone to be useful.

The researchers from the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine conducted a study, and they injected the aromatic turmerone into the brain of rats. It was injected in the area where the neutral stem cells were located. After scanning the brain, the researchers found that some of its areas had become more active. It was also revealed that the capacity of the rat's brain to heal itself increased by 80 percent.

The study lead author from the University Hospital of Cologne, and the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, Dr. Adele Rueger, reveals that the study has helped them move a step closer in the achievement of their goals.

The Harvard NeuroDiscovery Center also states that the findings of the study can potentially help with the improvement of medicines against neurodegenerative diseases. These diseases include Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's diseases, multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or ALS, and Hungtington's disease. The Harvard researchers also added that if diseases are left untreated or unchecked, brain-related problems can affect to 12 million people in the United States.

People are using curcumin supplements to fight a range of conditions, including those that affect the brain. Curcumin supplements with the black pepper extract called BioPerine, which is a bioavailability enhancing ingredient, are extremely popular in the international market nowadays (amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Extract-Vegetarian/dp/B00VSVKJ8I/).
