CSCF highlight trends in skin cancer growth, education programs and the dangers of tanning beds
Edmonton, AB -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/16/2015 -- The risks of skin cancer continue to increase over time with statistics showing that a Canadian born in the 1990s has a 1 in 6 chance of getting skin cancer in their lifetime, whereas for those born in the 1960s it was 1 in 20. That is a large increase in a relatively short period of time. This is just one of the items discussed this week on Inside Cosmetic Surgery Today on webtalkradio.net, when show host, Edmonton Cosmetic Dermatologist Dr Barry Lycka welcomes once again, the Executive Director of the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation, Leona Yez.
In this in-depth interview, Dr Lycka & Ms. Yez begin their discussion by looking at the problem of rising rates of skin cancer and the difficulties of changing behaviour and attitudes to a disease that can be deadly, yet is preventable. They talk about the latest education and awareness programs that the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation has put in place to help provide practical skin cancer prevention advice and highlight the ABCDE method to help with early skin cancer detection. The dangers of tanning beds are discussed, particularly by children under 18, and the campaigns to have legislation in place across all Canadian Provinces to ban the use of tanning beds by under 18s.
To close the interview, Dr Lycka and Ms. Yez look forward to a major annual fundraising event for the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation - An Evening of Reds, Whites & Blues held at the Oasis Center, Edmonton on April 24th 2015. It is an evening of wine tasting, blues music, dancing and fundraising and information and tickets are available from the CSCF website http://www.canadianskincancerfoundation.com/reds-whites--blues.html along with sponsorship opportunities and fundraising details.
