Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/12/2016 -- Samsung has asked all of its sales partners to stop offering all versions of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone. The request came after reports of five of the company's replacement Note 7 caught on fire one after another. Now it's requesting stores and carriers to halt sells and exchanges of the replacement units worldwide, which were supposed to be safe from the risk of bursting into flames.

After these reported incidents, all four major carriers in the US had stopped selling the device. Samsung said on the original Galaxy Note 7 recall site that all Note 7 units in consumers' hands including the replacement units should be powered down and returned to Samsung for another kind of smartphone or a refund.

Samsung's already recalled both the original units and the replacement units. Samsung has claimed that the phone itself was safe and blamed that it's the batteries that went wrong. And it blamed one particular supplier and said that it already switched to batteries from another supplier. However, there's still five of the company's replacement Note 7s caught fire. In the last incident, it caught on fire while a man was sleeping in his room and filled the room with smoke. And the man got acute bronchitis the next day.

"We are working with relevant regulatory bodies to investigate the recently reported cases involving the Galaxy Note 7" Samsung writes in a statement posted on October 11, 2016. There's no telling how long the investigation is going to take but it's on progress.

Along with this inevitable turn of events for Samsung, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) commended Samsung for calling for stop selling the Note 7. "No one should have to be concerned their phone will endanger them, their family or their property," Elliot Kaye, chairman of the safety commission says in a statement. "It's the right move for Samsung to suspend the sale and exchange of all Galaxy Note 7s," He says the CPSC will continue to investigate the issues of the phone.

It's almost certain that these incidents are going to reflect poorly on Samsung and at the same time benefit other leading smartphone makers like Apple or Google. Most obviously, a lot of consumers have made the switch from Samsung to iPhone and the sales forecast of iPhone 7 has gone up from 14 million to 15 million.

The way Samsung's dealing with these incidents has irritated some consumers and it's still not clear what's going on with the replacement devices. Now the most obvious explanation is that the Galaxy Note 7 is a defective device and they need to be returned to Samsung as soon as possible.
