Samsung Unveiled Galaxy Note 7 with Iris Scanner, Curved Display and Other New Features

Samsung officially launched its new smartphone: Galaxy Note 7. The new smartphone comes with several impressive features and a brand new design, like an iris scanner and a 5.7-inch curved display.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/04/2016 -- Samsung, the world's largest smartphone maker, officially unveiled the supersized Samsung Galaxy Note 7 at its Galaxy Note Unpacked 2016 event on Tuesday. The new smartphone comes with several impressive features and a brand new design. The biggest highlight of Galaxy Note 7 is an iris scanner. And it equips with a 5.7-inch curved display.

Galaxy Note 7 comes with an iris scanner. The iris scanner will use the front-facing camera to scan people's eyes and secure their most precious files. It offers an alternative to fingerprint ID, which doesn't work well when fingers are wet. Of course, the four-digit passcode will still work.

The Galaxy Note 7 has a 5.7-inch display that curves on the right and left, similar to the previous model. The curved Super AMOLED display will allow users to quick access to contacts and apps. It also lights up different colors when it faces down and receives calls or texts.

The camera comes with 12 megapixels in the rear and 5 megapixels in the front, which is the same as Samsung Galaxy S7. And Galaxy Note 7 packs a 3500mAh battery with fast charging support on wired as well as wireless. Samsung says the wireless charging is compatible with WPC and PMA. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, 4.2, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac (2.4/5GHz), GPS/ A-GPS, Glonass, 3G, and USB Type-C.

The smartphone also supports LTE and is compatible with LTE Cat.12, LTE Cat.10, and LTE Cat.9. The LTE compatibility may be different caused by markets and mobile operators. The smartphone also supports the Samsung Pay system, with both NFC and MST support.

Other features of the phone include an improved stylus that can be used underwater or when the screen is wet. Waterproofing pen makes it easier to use when it rains as liquid on the screen generally makes fingers less effective, while the new pen nub will work just the same.

Memory on the Note 7 is quite impressive since it'll be external and fits a 256GB microSD, which is not including the built-in 64GB of storage. With that much memory people can store up to about 87,000 3MB photos. Users will have no need to free up storage space by deleting photos or videos like 16GB iPhone users.

Samsung has yet to give the Note 7 a price, but based on previous models of the Galaxy high-end lineup, its price will be in the $800-$900 range. The Note 7 will start shipping on Aug. 19, but those interested in buying the phablet can place pre-orders on the official website starting Wednesday.
