Playa Del Carmen, Mexico -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2015 -- Scuba Diving in Playa Del Carmen offers something for all divers; in a conscious effort to protect the fragile marine ecosystem, there is a dive center in Playa Del Carmen Mexico that stands at the forefront of education, training, and conservation. The plague that has the reefs in turmoil is the Lionfish (Pterois Volitans) which is not native to the Caribbean seas surrounding Mexico's east coast. Most likely released from an aquarium in the United States, this native fish of the indo-pacific region has no known predators. In ten short years, two lionfish are responsible for overwhelming the Atlantic Ocean from Massachusetts to Argentina and throughout the Gulf of Mexico. A single Lionfish can produce over two million eggs per year and eat over four hundred thousand reef fish per acre per year. These are some staggering numbers that affect our oceans in a dramatic fashion.

"Diversity Diving in Playa Del Carmen actively promotes Lionfish hunting and containment" says Cheryl Rottler, the owner and PADI master instructor at Diversity Diving. "The only known predators that the Lionfish have are divers with a spear. We know that we can never completely remove this invasive species from our waters, but we can control the numbers by hunting them aggressively." Cheryl went on to say "nothing goes to waste as we use the delicious flaky white meat from the fish to feed the local population if the divers don't want it for personal use"

With the upcoming Bull Shark season scheduled for Playa Del Carmen in early December, Diversity Diving is making a big push to remove as many lionfish as possible from our waters before we break for four months for shark season. "We understand the need for ocean conservation and lionfish containment but we also take the safety of our divers very seriously", says Cheryl. "It is impractical to think that we can safely continue to remove lionfish from our oceans when the Bull Sharks are in town"

Cheryl went on to say, "Diversity Diving is a leader in shark conservation and awareness by providing daily guided dives with the Bulls to learn more about their habits and behaviors as well as raise awareness that these magnificent animals are not a threat to the human population." Diving with the Bull Sharks in Playa Del Carmen can be one of the most amazing dives that a diver can ever do. Adrenaline filled yet remarkably peaceful, the Bull Sharks are an amazing adventure that you can dive from late November through early March.

Playa Del Carmen diving offers shallow easy reefs, deep vertical walls, and some amazing technical diving for those trained in the various specialties. Combine these dives with Lionfish hunting or Bull Shark diving and you have the foundation of a great holiday and some amazing memories.
