Seeing Is Believing: KAMRA Corneal Inlay Gives Optometrist New Vision

Vancouver, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/06/2017 -- Presbyopia is an age-related condition that occurs when the eye's lens doesn't change shape as easily as it once did, making it more difficult to both read and see. This is a condition that affects approximately 114 million Americans and in the past, has not had suitable treatments – until now. AcuFocus, Inc. has developed the first-of-its-kind KAMRA corneal inlay, utilizing the pinhole effect, which is a foundation of modern day photography used in cameras and smartphones to capture clear images. The pinhole effect focuses rays of light entering the eye, temporarily removing the effects of refractive errors such as myopia, and successfully helped Dr. Donna Glenn, a Maryland-based optometrist, gain a new, improved vision.

Showcased on Good Morning America, and now Business Wire, Dr. Glenn spent decades helping patients with their own vision needs, before coming to the realization that she, too, had a vision problem. Now in her 50s, she relied on reading glasses to see, especially in the exam room. Then, as luck would have it, she learned about KAMRA corneal inlay from Dr. Holzman at a lecture for eye care professionals. As a result, her reading glasses are a thing of the past.

The first and only ophthalmic and vision correction surgeon offering this near vision solution to patients in the greater Washington D.C. Area, Dr. Andrew Holzman of TLC Laser Eye Center explained the process: the KARMA inlay focuses light onto the back of the eye and provides a natural range of vision – from near to far – without blurry zones. A tiny mini-ring, smaller than a contact lens, is placed in only one eye by an ophthalmologist to help restore reading vision.
