The Public is Asked to Support Children in Slums Gain access to Education So They Can Realize Their Full Potential.
Matawan, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/02/2014 -- As Nelson Mandela said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Slum2School Africa is a volunteer driven developmental organization founded in 2012 and operating in Nigeria. Their vision is to transform society by empowering disadvantaged children in slums by providing educational scholarships, healthcare and mentoring to give these impoverished children every opportunity to grow smarter, healthier and wiser as they grow up and enter adult life fully equipped to make valuable contributions to society.
With over 10 million Nigerian children currently out of school, reports by UNESCO's Institute for Statistics says, Nigeria accounts for about 18% of the total number of Out-Of-School Children globally and stands as the country with highest number of in the world. The magnitude of the problem extends beyond the disadvantaged children themselves threatening the future of Nigeria itself. An uneducated population is unsustainable in the long term where the future of any country is concerned..
This is where Slum2School Africa hopes to turn things around. To date they have provided educational scholarships to 650 children and plan to do much more with the help they hope to get from their Indiegogo crowdfunding project. This year’s fund raising campaign bears the hashtag #1000Dreams representing their goal to reach out to 350 more children and give them educational opportunities and guidance in life. All told they want to actively support a total of 1,000 children and make a difference in their lives. They hope to achieve this and much more in the years ahead with support from the public.
This flexible funding project will end on October 7, 2014.
