London, UK -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/19/2014 -- Jon Wiley, Google’s lead designer for Google Search, said on March 12th, 2014 at Google+ “You may have noticed that Google Search on desktop looks a little different today.” Jon is talking about Google rolling out the new design to desktop searchers.
Google Search - Top favorite and the most common Search Engine since recently has a different presentation of search results for desktop users. New Google layout includes changes to both organic search results and ads to desktop users. It removes underlines from links, increases the font size and the biggest change is the way Google's AdWords targeted ads are labeled in search results.
Instead of the pink shading that appeared behind ads in search results there are green URL and next to it an ads preceded by a small yellow box labeled "Ad." There is also an underline separating the ads from the organic search results.
The headlines are larger and the description text seems to be slightly lighter. The fonts are adjusted with the wider typeface.

"It’s cleaner and simpler, optimized for touch, with results clustered on cards so you can focus on the answers you’re looking for," said Amit Singhal, Google's senior vice president of search, in a blog post explaining those changes.
Despite Google`s opinion that increased size of result titles, removed underlines, and evened out all line heights, improves readability and creates an overall cleaner look, there are many users that have complains on redesign of search results and many are there who have welcomed changes in Google search. Beyond the cosmetic change, the new search layout is affecting SEO in a pretty pronounced way. Instead of the maximum 70 allowable characters in title for SEO purposes, now there are same headlines truncated in Google's new search results, giving everyone about 59-60 characters to work with.
Jon Wiley, Google’s lead designer for Google Search and also leader of the User Experience Team for Google Search explained:
“Improving consistency in design across platforms makes it easier for people to use Google Search across devices and it makes it easier for us to develop and ship improvements across the board.
With any change in Google’s design and layout, you hear complaints. I’d expect to hear a lot around these changes.”
The changes appear to be part of a broader redesign of search results Google has been experimenting with since last fall, when it first began rolling out similar changes to search results to mobile users.
Avichal, Web designer and co-owner of Getspool, said “Google's logic behind the new change was that they make the changes for mobile and tablets, and they carry out over several the design changes to desktop users. “ Avichal added that Google’s new layout is just for web search; if you go for News tab you can still see old search design for all latest news update.
More and more searchers, SEOs, webmasters and advertisers began seeing the new Google design as early as November, though it seems Google didn't start bringing the changes to the majority of its users until recently.
Now that Google is rolling out the refreshed look to all of its desktop users, it suggests that the company is trying to create a more consistent experience for its users across platforms.
