Edmonds, WA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/26/2016 -- Special Education Teacher Megan Drobnicki-Girdhar has reached out to the community of Edmonds Washington and received fantastic support. Megan is working to furnish the VOICE Transition Academy with an iMac and Ipad technologies to enable the students of the program to create, edit, and learn from videos using the iMovie software. In just two days time, the teacher has received nearly $1,000 towards reaching the $1,852 goal. The project found via the website Donors Choose at https://www.donorschoose.org/VOICE, will help students expand on the work on iMovie that they have started this year.
Megan Drobnicki-Girdhar stated on May 25th; "Students have been engaged in learning iMovie this year in our FLASH class, and they have created video models on key concepts such as self-advocacy and touching rights. Currently, we have two outdated iPads for all 50 students to use to create and edit videos. One iPad has a screen that is cracked and held together with duct tape, and we have no access to an iMac or Macbook, which has a more robust iMovie platform." Mrs. Drobnicki-Girdhar goes on to comment; "Having access to new iPads and an iMac would enable students to take more vivid video models without crashing and master editing videos using the iMac version of iMovie."

The VOICE Transition Academy of the Edmonds School District is a program made up of 50, 18-21-year-old young adults with intellectual, developmental, and neurological disabilities transitioning from school to adult life. At VOICE, students learn to maneuver community transit, work internships, access leisure and vocational opportunities in the community and learn the social skills to lead lives as independently as possible after transitioning out of school.
