The certification comes from the Florida Office of Suppler Diversity of the Division of State Purchasing.

Ms. Campbell-Heroux and her company CPR St Pete Cell Phone Repair St. Pete are now certified with the state as a woman- and service disabled veteran-owned business for the next two years.

This means Cell Phone Repair St. Pete can receive extra consideration when bidding on government contracts in Florida. The state also has an initiative to develop more minority-owned and veteran-owned businesses.

"Florida recognizes that owning a business is not easy, especially for certain people. This program gives a hand up to people like me who want to own a business," Ms. Campbell-Heroux said. "Business advice, help with bidding on jobs and networking with other veterans and minorities are some of the services offered."

The certification also helps when bidding on private industry jobs. The state paperwork provides proof that a business like Cell Phone Repair St. Pete is actually owned by a service veteran.

"Some governments have a requirement that a certain amount of their work goes to minority- or veteran-owned businesses. With this certification in hand, I can bid on those jobs and I don't have to fill out additional paperwork to prove that I'm a veteran," Ms. Campbell-Heroux said. The Office of Supplier Diversity sends out information to certified businesses so we can bid on the contracts if we want to. That's a big help."
