Sugary Sodas May Increase the Risk of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Orlando, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/08/2015 -- Today, sugary sodas are scattered all over grocery stores and cafes. These drinks are inexpensive and are delicious, too. The bad news is that they are generally not beneficial for overall health due to the fact that they have little to no nutritional value, and they provide some harmful effects inside the body.

Sugary sodas may increase the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. While it is true that drinking soda provides a very pleasant, short-term effect on consumers, it can nonetheless cause long-term side effects that are detrimental to health.

"Sugary sodas are very popular in a majority of countries from around the world. People from all walks of life and of any age consume them. Some even drink soda on a daily basis," said VitaBreeze Supplements spokesperson, Michelle O'Sullivan.

In the study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, it was found that women who drink sugary sodas every day are more likely to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis than those who don't drink them, or drink less of the beverage. This risk also seemed to be more prevalent in older women.

Rheumatoid arthritis can result in inflammation, which also leads to joint pain and damage as well as fatigue. Genetic and environmental factors such as diet are highly associated with the development of the arthritic condition. Consumption of sugary sodas is also associated with the development of obesity, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes, and all of which are common in people with rheumatoid arthritis.

The lead study author at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, Yang Hu, conducted two large studies of nurses, which are the Nurses' Health Study and NHS II. He monitored 190,000 women and analyzed their health and diet.

The study revealed that the subjects who consumed soda on a daily basis were 63 percent more likely to develop rheumatoid arthritis compared to non-drinkers. Interestingly, the participants who consumed more sodas also exercised less and had poorer diets.

Experts recommend that people make some dietary and lifestyle changes to improve their immunity against various ailments, including rheumatoid arthritis. They should eat healthy foods and beverages and avoid the ones that are processed and have no nutritional value.

In addition to having a healthy diet and lifestyle, taking natural supplements such as glucosamine is also recommended. Glucosamine has therapeutic substances that are generally good for overall health. It is also a popular remedy among individuals who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and other arthritic conditions (www.amazon.com/Glucosamine-Sulfate-Chondroitin-Supplement-Turmeric/dp/B00DUMO9X4).
