Terrain Planning and Design Featured in Premiere Home Magazine

Bedford, NH -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/27/2014 -- Terrain Planning and Design LLC, a landscape architecture firm in Bedford New Hampshire, was recently featured in an article of a high-end home architectural magazine. “New Hampshire Home Magazine” interviewed the firm’s principallandscape architect, Eric Buck, about Terrain Planning’s contribution to a home construction project in the scenic White Mountains of New Hampshire.

In the article, titled “A White Mountain Retreat,” Buck explained that the main objective of his landscape plan was to solve the storm water run-off issues, while using a pallet of native plants that would survive the harsh New Hampshire winters. “We wanted the landscape to blend in with the home,” he says in the article.

As the topsoil was very minimal on site, Buck had to import soil and amend it with nutrients that would be compatible with the native plant material that he was using. Boulders and landscape stones were also sourced off-site, because the indigenous stone on the property was very unattractive. A cascading waterfall was installed into the steep slope, mimicking the mountain streams so prevalent in the region. Blueberry sod and perennial wildflowers blanket the slope, holding the soil in place while providing a bouquet of color throughout the summer months.

Buck worked closely with architect Tom Samyn of Samyn-D’Elia Architects to see the client’s vision of a seasonal mountaintop retreat come to fruition.

The success of the project caught the attention of New Hampshire Home Magazine, a bi-monthly publication dedicated to showcasing the talent of New Hampshire craftsman in the areas of home architecture, design and decor. The parent company for McLean Communications also produces such periodicals as the nationally-known Yankee magazine and the Old Farmer’s Almanac. This paid-subscription magazine from McLean Communications boasts a circulation to over 20,000 homes,as well as many architects and development firms.

Buck said being included in such a reputable and top-notch publication like New Hampshire Home Magazine was a huge honor. “We hope that being featured in this article helps to give voice to the central mission of Terrain Planning and Design – that is, to bring awareness to builders, architects and home owners about minimizing the impact that home construction has on the environment, and supporting sustainable land planning efforts,” Buck said.
