Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. Announces Inaugural Recipient of the Walter J. Thackray Scholarship at the Philadelphia Foundation

Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/26/2018 -- Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. is pleased to announce the first recipient of the Walter J. Thackray Scholarship at The Philadelphia Foundation, one of the country's oldest and the Greater Philadelphia region's largest community foundation. This scholarship has been created in fond memory of the company's co-founder and family patriarch, Walter J. Thackray, who passed away in 2010. It is the company's intention to foster his legacy of philanthropy and charitable giving through awarding this scholarship to a deserving recipient.

The scholarship committee has awarded a scholarship to Wayne, PA resident Evan Cain, who is a recent graduate of Conestoga High School's Senior Class of 2018. An accepted student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES,) Cain intends to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Crop Sciences. This innovative major—in which plant genetics, biotechnology, business, data science, crop production and sustainability are brought together—is internationally recognized for utilizing the latest advancements in science and technology to improve food and fuel production most efficiently.

Crediting his grandmother for fostering his initial passion in all things agricultural-related, Cain envisions a future ultimately working with an organization dedicated to easing world hunger. "I think my part in this may be at a genetic level, helping to design new plants and crops that are more efficient and that can feed more people regardless of the soil conditions," Cain said.

Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. enthusiastically decided to partner with The Philadelphia Foundation to administer the scholarship due to the organization's commitment to improving the quality of life in Greater Philadelphia. Since 1918, The Philadelphia Foundation has built, managed and distributed philanthropic resources effectively – including more than 50 scholarship funds, such as the Walter J. Thackray Scholarship, that are awarded to 300 individuals each year.

Thackray Crane Rental, Inc. co-founders, Walter and Anna (nee Cassalia) Thackray maintained an undeniable work ethic while building their company and diversifying its construction services over time, all while raising their six children. As the region's largest continuously family owned and operated crane rental company, its motto of "faith, family and country" is what truly distinguishes it from other crane rental companies. Being family owned and operated, the company continues to maintain hands-on relationships with both customers and the community overall.
