Masterfully crafted by Scott V. Morton, ‘The Battle of Barge Island Bar & Tackle’ serves up an unlikely yet engrossing narrative that sees one Boston ‘Southie’ and his childhood best friend pack up their old life for a new existence of paradise on a boat in Florida. However, one of the ‘locals’ has other ideas about the best use of their money; and offers up an investment opportunity that could leave someone stone-cold dead.
Largo, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/21/2014 -- Everyone dreams of packing their life up, moving to Florida and sitting out the rest of their days on a boat in the sun. Author Scott V. Morton himself made the move from Massachusetts to the Sunshine State, and his new lease of life provided abundant inspiration for a gripping new novel.
Thankfully, the author’s life is much calmer than those of his characters in ‘The Battle Of Barge Island Bar & Tackle’.
Scare Johnson is a regular guy from South Boston (Southie) who only wants to enjoy his slice of the American pie. In this case it's Key Lime pie he has set his sites on. He buys himself a barge, anchors it off the Florida Keys, and along with his childhood friend, Billy Cortez, they fix the barge up and rent out space on the upper deck. All they want to do is sit back, rake in the money, and relax while enjoying the Florida sun. Unfortunately, a greedy Russian with a t-shirt shop in Key West decides he wants to invest in their business, against their wishes.
Enter Scare's Southie Pride, Scare's wife (Ms. Colleen), Bobby, Grouper, TwoBob, Capt. Mike, Trouble, and the rest of the gang. They have no limits when it comes to protecting their friends. The Russian has no idea what he got himself into. Killing is not off the table, and maiming is a matter of course. Push comes to shove and everything gets down and dirty for all the marbles.
“The narrative is one of fun; allowing readers to briefly escape into a world very different to their own,” explains Morton. “At least I hope it is different to their own; this certainly wasn’t supposed to be someone’s memoir!”
Continuing, “It’s a very dangerous story that attempts to explain the voice and power money has in the world. You may have it all; the boat, the sun and the time to enjoy it – but you’re toast if someone else has their sights set on taking it all from you.”
Since its release, the book has garnered a string of rave reviews.
Dounan Patrick comments, “I loved it! The characters were gritty and raw. Funny and dangerous at the same time. The main character, Scare Johnson has a definite way of doing things and solving problems. In this story he and his crew have transplanted down from Boston, to the Florida Keys. The Keys aren't ready for them, and they aren't really calmed down enough for the Keys, yet. The story moves fast. Bam! Bam! Bam! One thing after another. It kept my attention. I couldn't put it down. I can't wait for the next one in the series.”
With plenty more adventures to come, interested readers are urged to embark on reading volume one as soon as possible.
