The CCGNJ Discusses Mental Health and Suicide Among Problem Gamblers

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/02/2018 -- For decades, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey (CCGNJ) has been helping those battling gambling and alcohol disorders, which are sometimes referred to as addictions, in Trenton as well as the rest of New Jersey. Although their efforts have made significant strides in recent years, the organization has noticed an increasing number of disordered gamblers who admit to having suicidal thoughts on a regular basis. While there are many resources available that help those struggling with self-destructive thoughts and behaviors, connecting those people with the resources they need has proven to be a challenge. Therefore, the CCGNJ is encouraging anyone with a friend, family member, or colleague who is exhibiting suicidal behaviors, to contact 800-GAMBLER for help.

The CCGNJ offers helpful resources to those struggling with disordered gambling, including sports betting in Atlantic City. Through supportive help meetings, online literature, lectures, workshops, and more, this non-profit organization helps disordered gamblers to not only set forth on the road to recovery but also to remain there.

Over the years, it has become apparent that disordered gambling is often not the only health condition plaguing most problem gamblers. In many cases, they also suffer from mental health problems, including suicidal thoughts and tendencies. As an organization dedicated to helping disordered gamblers recover and live a healthy lifestyle once again, the CCGNJ understands the importance of treating both their gambling disorder as well as their mental health.

Voicing her thoughts on this issue, Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ said, "Because suicidal tendencies only exacerbate the problems of a disordered gambler, we're encouraging those with loved ones who exhibit suicidal behaviors to contact our helpline, 800-GAMBLER for help."

Many people who display signs of suicidal thoughts and tendencies are hesitant to make the first move, which is why the CCGNJ is asking friends and family members of disordered gamblers to encourage seeking help. For more information, visit https://800gambler.org or call 800-GAMBLER today.
