The CCGNJ Discusses the Potential Dangers of FanDuel Group's New Online Casino

Hamilton, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/08/2018 -- Fantasy sports giant, FanDuel Group, has announced that it will launch an internet casino in the state of New Jersey in addition to the brick-and-mortar location it recently opened at the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ to offer sports betting. As a non-profit organization that helps those with a gambling problem get the help they need to recover, the Council on Compulsive Gambling of New Jersey sees the potential dangers the new online casino could pose for New Jersey residents and warns gamblers across the state to use caution when gambling online.

There has been a recent revival of gambling in the state of New Jersey since the legalization of sports gambling earlier this year. With a sizeable new gambling market on the table, companies are racing to stake their claim. Two new casinos have opened this summer in Atlantic City, and a new sportsbook has opened at the Meadowlands Racetrack in NJ which attracted many sports gamblers in its opening weekend.

Residents of New Jersey can expect to see and hear many more gambling advertisements in the near future and possibly a noticeable increase in the number of friends and family members taking part in the gambling excitement. While the act of gambling is not inherently evil, many gamblers can quickly find themselves in troubling situations as a gambling disorder develops. With the opening of the new online casino by FanDuel Group, New Jersey will have access to gambling at the touch of a button, which could lead many to unknowingly develop a damaging gambling habit.

"Online gambling presents many dangers that one does not face in the casino," explains Neva Pryor, Executive Director of the CCGNJ. "With the casino at their fingertips, people can decide to gamble in an instant, which can lead to riskier and more frequent gambling behaviors."

With gambling in New Jersey becoming more prevalent, people are encouraged to pay attention for signs of a gambling disorder in themselves and others, and to contact the free, confidential hotline of the CCGNJ at 800-GAMBLER for help.
