Tobasco Mine and Mill were among the most productive mining operations back in the gold rush near Lake City and Silverton. There is not much left of it, but the Tobasco Cabin built in the early 1900s can still be checked out. The cabin remains the only surviving building capturing the wealth it once promised.
Carson City was established in 1882. It takes some time and experience to get to it at an altitude of over 11,900 feet. The ride is long and dangerous, but definitely worth the precarious trek. It's like returning to the 1800s in a time machine; the views are incredible.
