"The Last Show": A Celebration of Traditional Peruvian Circus Culture and the Virtues of Perseverance by Roberto Flores

"The Last Show", translated from the film's original title "La Última Función", is a short film by successful Peruvian director Roberto Flores. "The Last Show" will be screened during the world-renowned 2016 Cannes Film Festival as an integral part of the festival's Short Film Corner. This is possible due to the support of Peruvian organization Prom Perú.

Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/20/2016 -- Roberto Flores began his successful career as an editor of advertising videos. However, as Flores progressed through his career, he jumped at opportunities he received to edit two feature films before he turned twenty five years old. Although he enjoyed editing those films, his work on them encouraged him to branch out further and direct his own independent film. Soon after he finished editing the two feature films, Flores directed his own production, a dramatic short film titled "Nocturno". "Nocturno" was met with overwhelming success; it was featured in more than twelve different film festivals around the world.

"The Last Show" is the second short film that Flores has directed. As stated earlier, although "The Last Show" will be screened at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, it made its initial debut in 2015. The short film has since won the 2015 Peruvian Short Film Contest. This film contest is the most prestigious film contest in the entire country of Peru. In order to win the top prize, "The Last Show" competed against more than ninety other qualified participants and was judged to be of higher quality content and craftsmanship than all other competitors.

Flores' full filmography credits include: co-general producer of dramatic short film "Ayaymama" in May of 2016, co-executive producer of dramatic short film "Musa" in July of 2015, director of dramatic short film "Nocturno" in July of 2014, and editor of musical feature film "Sueños de Gloria" in 2013.

"The Last Show" was released in Peru on August 10, 2015. Although it has since been translated, "The Last Show" premiered in Spanish as "La Última Función". Roberto Flores' short drama was filmed in outskirts of the city of Lima, Peru. It was produced by Kelly Sanchez, and created under the umbrella of the film company Saqras Films.

The dramatic short film follows Jorge, who is a lovable clown who works in a very small, run-down circus. Despite the shabby nature of the circus and its lack of popularity among crowds who are searching for a faster-paced, more modern form of entertainment to spend their time watching, Jorge is extremely passionate about his work in the circus. He is devoted to the circus and he loves the small, old-fashioned Peruvian community in which the circus is performed. Being a clown is all that Jorge knows and he is entirely satisfied with that reality. However, Jorge's simple, content life is turned upside down when the owner of the circus informs Jorge that he is being forced to sell the circus due to the lack of people who are attending each performance. At this news, Jorge is devastated, but he is not willing to give up. Instead of accepting the news of the circus's demise and setting out to find another job or begin an alternate career path, Jorge is determined to save his beloved circus and works to prevent it from being sold until the curtain closes on the very last show.
