Philadelphia, PA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/12/2016 -- In August, the Mummers Mardi Gras parade may be the farthest thing from many people's minds. However, the event never strays far from the hearts of its performers. After a highly successful parade this past February, the Mummers performers are more excited than ever for next year. This event is made possible by the company ADVENT, an event and entertainment agency. ADVENT's inspiration for the event is to develop a new tradition that combines Philadelphia Mummers history with New Orleans pageantry.
The third annual Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras celebration was held on February 20th, 2016 through the streets of Manayunk. More than 15,000 visitors, twice as many as last year, joined in to watch and cheer on the Mummers Mardi Gras performers. 17 Mummers string bands marched down Main Street in Manayunk from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Some of the bands included the Woodland String Band, the Fralinger String Band, the South Philadelphia String Band, the Ferko String Band, the Polish American String Band, the Durning String Band, the Broomall String Band, the Greater Overlook String Band, and more. Onlookers danced, laughed, sang and clapped along; and overall, the event was a tremendous success.
What's not known by many people is how much time, money, and effort it takes to produce a top-notch performance for a Mummers parade. Everything from the costumes to the props to the regular expenses quickly adds up. Luckily, Mummers Mardi Gras helped raise over $25,000 to help next year performances become even better.

ADVENT first produced Mummers Mardi Gras in 2014 with the support of numerous sponsors and entertainment. The event was developed to keep the Mummers in the spotlight throughout the year, and create a new tradition in the process.
