The University Pain Medicine Center Announces Intrathecal Pumps Are Available for Patients Suffering from Chronic Pain Conditions

Somerset, NJ -- (SBWIRE) -- 03/02/2017 -- The University Pain Medicine Center, a medical practice that offers epidural injections and many other procedures at not only their office in Brooklyn, NY but their four other offices in New York and New Jersey, is pleased to announce that intrathecal pumps are available to those suffering from chronic pain. Since the beginning, the University Pain Medicine Center has used cutting-edge procedures and treatment options to help their patients in New Jersey and New York find relief from all types of chronic pain conditions.

Intrathecal pump implants deliver small amounts of medication directly to the patient's intrathecal space (the area surrounding the spinal cord) which prevents pain signals from being sent to the brain. Those who typically undergo this procedure are patients who suffer from chronic back pain and have found no relief through conservative methods and/or surgery, those who have cancer pain, abdominal pain, or pain in other areas of their body caused by a spinal cord condition or injury.

Those who are interested in this procedure will be required to undergo a trial procedure at the University Pain Medicine Center to see if the permanent implant will offer sufficient pain relief. During the trial procedure, the patient will be given a local anesthetic, and the physician will make a small incision in the patient's back to insert a catheter into the intrathecal space. The catheter will then be connected to a temporary pump that will allow the patient to administer the pain medication as needed. If the patient reports a good level of pain relief at his or her follow-up appointment, the patient will be scheduled to receive the permanent intrathecal pump implant at a later date.

To learn more about intrathecal pump implants, or to make an appointment with one of the pain consultants at their office in Brooklyn, NY to discuss this procedure or any others they offer, please call 732-823-0028 or schedule an appointment online.
