San Diego, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/13/2014 -- According to a recent report, a gender gap still exists when it comes to the salaries of male versus female web developers.
Digital marketing agency Moz released the results of their 2014 Industry Survey (http://moz.com/blog/online-marketing-salaries), for which they collected data from over 3,700 marketers spanning more than 80 countries worldwide. Their data reveal that on average "women earned more than $10,000 less in salary than their average counterparts."
As a way to highlight the work of accomplished female web developers, Mod Girl Marketing, a woman-owned digital marketing and web development company, posted a blog identifying eight top female web professionals working to balance what is currently a male-dominated industry.
Despite the male dominance in web design, Mod Girl points out that roughly 60 percent of graphic designers are women. However, the field of website design and management often involves both front-end design and back-end programming. As the Mod Girl blog on female web developers explains, “It's a rarer bird to find a woman who excels in back-end programming, as well as arts. Only 3 percent of computer programmers are women.”
Mod Girl Marketing’s “Eight Top Female Web Developers” blog post identifies some women who are excelling in various aspects of web design and development. The developers featured in the blog post include globally recognized artists, marketers and IT professionals including Kate Bingaman-Burt, Larissa Meek, Jan Cavan, Meagan Fisher, Gisele Jacquenod, Melissa Hie, Kimberly Coles and Mandy McEwen and her Mod Girl Team.
“It’s about time female web professionals get some long overdue recognition,” said Mod Girl Founder and President Mandy McEwen. “The field of web design may be a relatively male-dominated, but there are so many female web designers doing amazing work.”
