Top Student-Athlete Christina Walker Starts Indiegogo Campaign to Remain in Private School

Christina Walker had a stellar 4.0 GPA in 2013-14, but needs funding to remain at the private school she attends.

Atlanta, GA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/14/2014 -- Christina Walker is a 12 year-old student-athlete from just outside of Atlanta, Georgia and she desperately needs tuition assistance. During her 6th grade year in private school, Christina accumulated a 4.0 GPA, served as a 6th Grade Advisory Representative, made the School President’s List both semesters and again received President Barack Obama's Award for Academic Excellence. Christina’s scholastic achievements in 2013-14 were made possible because she earned a Georgia Goal Scholarship that provided her the opportunity to transition from public school to private school. The average Georgia Goal Scholarship awarded for students at her private school in 2013-14 was $2,638. Tuition for 2014-15 is $10,438.00.

“It was quite interesting switching to a different curriculum from public school to private school. I adapted very well both socially and academically. My lowest grade was a 91 in Accelerated Math. Overall though, I was very happy with what I accomplished in my first year at ELCA”. - Christina Walker

Christina also had an excellent track record academically prior to attending private school, earning many other awards. She won the African American Quiz Bowl two years in a row, the 5th grade spelling bee (representing her school at the County Spelling Bee Competition), and was a member of the Stock Market team which finished 1st among other schools up to the 12th grade.

Christina also plays basketball and was the only 6th grader on her middle school team. In 2012 she was a State Champion in the Georgia State Recreational Department Girls 10u Division. Christina has been recognized nationally by Youth Basketball Organization of America and this summer helped guide her travel team to the tournament title game. Her YBOA awards include:

- 2012 YBOA Student-Athlete Award (4th grade)
- 2013 YBOA Student-Athlete Award (5th grade)
- 2014 YBOA Humanitarian Award (6th grade)
- 2014 YBOA All-Academic Team Award Member (Georgia Pearls)

Christina is seeking donations to attend Eagles Landing Christian Academy (ELCA) located in McDonough, Georgia. The annual Christina Girl Fund 2014-15 will raise money for Christina to attend Private School from now through her graduating class of 2020. The funding budget for this campaign is $60,000.
