The fact that the Norwegian krone depreciated somewhat against other major currencies effected the slower growth in departures in 2013. The fall in the Norwegian krone is due to a combination of various factors such as poor liquidity and weak growth in the economy of Norway. For some Norwegians, it has become more expensive to travel overseas. However, this factor makes it more attractive to travel to cheaper destinations without affecting overall departures.

The number of outgoing trips from Norway is expected to register growth at a CAGR of 3% over the forecast period to reach 10,095,000 in 2018. The main reason for the projected increase in outbound travel is based on the wider availability of trips to different parts of the world and cheaper trips to outbound countries. Outgoing tourist expenditure is expected to grow in line with the number of trips, rising at a CAGR of 3% at constant 2013 prices.
