Two Books, One Vital Message: The Tragedy of Child Abuse Can Be Avoided

Written by Brenda Zofrea and illustrated by Andrea Geller, ‘Let’s B Safe’ and ‘God Has a Plan for You and Me!’ are a duo of children’s books – one for secular/one for faith based - both with the same important aim – to stop the cycle of sexual abuse, forever.

Sarasota, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/02/2014 -- One out of every four girls, and one out of every six boys will be sexually molested before they turn eighteen.

With statistics like that, it’s no wonder that parents everywhere believe the answer to the problem is to lock their doors and keep their children inside. April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month is the perfect time to announce the arrival of Child Safety Advocate Brenda Zofrea’s new book entitled, “God Has A Plan For You and Me!” “It’s a sad fact that predators are everywhere; where our children play and where our children pray- children need to know how to recognize ‘strangeness’ or ‘harmful behavior’ that may be displayed by the people in their lives. ‘Stranger danger’ just isn’t accurate and it doesn’t help keep kids safe.”

After the success that her first book, “LET’S B SAFE – A Safer World One Child at a Time” achieved in reaching thousands of children and their families in public schools, Zofrea saw the need to also reach out to children in parochial schools and families of faith. Both books, “God Has A Plan for You and ME” and “LET’S B SAFE” center upon a simple message: There is a plan for your life and being touched inappropriately is not it! With her two children’s books, Zofrea hopes to reach more parents, children and educators with an easy, effective, non-fearful approach to protecting children and improving literacy…all at the same time!

“Secrecy is the main reason sexual molestation occurs over a long period of time,” says Zofrea. “With these books, I offer a resource to help protect children from sexual predators and abduction – this is knowledge they can begin learning from as young as three-years-old. Both books are easy-to-read with non-threatening language, characters and multi-cultural illustrations, to help children assimilate the information in a way that feels natural to them.”

With the simple language, Zofrea has also made it easier for children for whom English is not their first language to read and understand the books.

“Both books were written with research-based strategies to help struggling or emergent readers especially those coming from homes where English is not their first language,” says the author. “One out of every five students entering US classrooms are coming from a home where English is not their primary language. It’s important to reach those kids too. And the best part is, busy parents can get several things done at once: child safety, daily reading with child and a bedtime story.”

Since their release dates, Zofrea’s books have attracted five star ratings on Amazon and many glowing reviews.

“Brenda Zofrea has found a unique way to "gently" introduce the threat of sexual abuse to children; yet at the same time the book delivers a powerful message. My kids fell in-love with "Bumblebee", a colorful character that leads them through this delightful--but informative, children’s book. I would recommend "LETS B SAFE" to parents (and grandparents!) everywhere, and also to any child-care facility. Makes a great gift!” wrote S. Renee Rickert.

Calling the book “an integral part of a child’s safety education,” Samer Mikhail wrote: “HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!! I am a family physician in Tampa, FL and I deal a lot with devastating, preventable domestic issues. This book teaches fundamental safety practices that most parents may feel awkward educating their children on -and it does so in such a clever and repetitive way that makes learning these practices fun and easy. The author obviously has a deep understanding in both child psychology and public safety. I recommended this book to all my family, friends and patients, and strongly feel that it should be integrated in our elementary school systems.”

“The rhyming text, realistic pictures and parent/teacher review guide provide a perfect resource for anyone who
cares about the safety of a child,” wrote Ronald W. Lewis.

Continuing: “A predator attempts to abduct a child every 4.5 minutes. Are we going to risk the lives of children by not educating them? That would be a tragedy.”
