Two Students Named Superintendent's Student of the Year by Metro Tech

Oklahoma City, OK -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/21/2016 -- Two students from Metro Tech were recently named Superintendent's Student of the Year at the Metro Tech Commencement Ceremony, which was held on Tuesday, May 10th. The first student who received this distinguished title is Brooklyn Scarberry, a health Careers Center Dental Assisting student.

After she went to college on a full-ride scholarship for cheerleading, she started working in the dental field but needed specific training. After she drove out to visit Metro Tech from Purcell, she decided that it was the best place for her to receive the formal training she needed.

After Scarberry graduates from Metro Tech, she will officially begin working as a dental assistant until she applies for dental hygiene school at the University of Oklahoma. Brooklyn said that Metro tech provided her with an excellent overall learning experience and prepared her for a career in the dental field. She also said that she drives from Purcell every day because this is by far the best program for the kind of work she wants to go into after she graduates.

Kanesha Tate is the other student who recently received the title of Superintendent's Student of the Year at Metro Tech. Tate is an OK Centennial High School senior and Metro Tech Biomedical Sciences Academy student. She is the valedictorian of her high school class, which consists of 67 students.

She has said that it is her goal to become a pediatrician, and enrolled in the Biomedical Sciences Academy at Metro Tech in an effort to develop an academic foundation. Tate will attend the University of Central Oklahoma in the fall to major in community health, and after she graduates she plans to apply to medical school.

Tate said that when she spoke to her counselor about enrolling in the Biomedical Sciences Academy at Metro Tech, she told her that a lot of people quit the program because it is very difficult. She told the counselor that the program is right for her, and that she is very passionate about children. She also said that she has taken the time to research all of the steps that are necessary in order to become a pediatrician.

Both students who received this award will also get $1,000 in cash as a recognition prize. The Superintendent's Student of the Year award was created to recognize the outstanding achievements of various Metro Tech students.
