ULI Hosts Transportation and Development Event with Speaker Gabe Klein

 

Fort Lauderdale, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 07/10/2014 -- The Urban Land Institute Southeast Florida/Caribbean to host Transportation and Development: Southeast Florida Transformational Shifts Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel. Leaders from Southeast Florida’s key transportation organizations will work together to map out future plans and today’s projects to ensure mobility for people and business alike.

Presentations include lecture given by keynote speaker, Gabe Klein, former top transportation chief for the cities of Chicago and Washington, D.C., senior visiting fellow for the Urban Land Institute and known for making cities less car-centric and more people-friendly. Klein will discuss how new demographic changes and preferences have created transformational shifts in how transportation is planned and implemented. Following the lecture, three case studies to be presented by developers and their public sector counterparts to reveal how these plans are being executed in their projects today.

Topics in discussion incorporate information about the Regional Transportation Plan, including current projects, the Greenway Plan, demographic shifts affecting transportation trends and passenger rail updates. Other speakers include Executive Director of the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority, Jack Stephens, Wilson Fernandez, transportation systems Manager of Miami-Dade Metropolitan Planning Organization and Scott Sanders, Executive Vice President of Development and Construction of All Aboard Florida.

A social media zone is to be organized at the event for guests to have the opportunity to interact with the Urban Land Institute via social media. A phone charging station, interactive photo displays, a live Twitter feed incorporating relevant social media hashtags and door prizes will all be present.

The Transportation and Development program will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Breakfast will be provided to attendees of the event during registration in the morning followed by presentations. Interested attendees can register for the event online at seFlorida.uli.org.
