Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/23/2014 -- Today Scorpio Rising Films announced that veteran actress Aleshia Brevard has joined the cast of the dramedy television pilot, Myrna, alongside Marlo Bernier, Jennifer Fontaine, Alexandra Billings and David Mattey. The building conversation across social networking outlets such as Facebook and Twitter reinforces the filmmakers' proposition that transgender-inclusive content is both in demand and supported far beyond the LGBT community.
A mainstay in 1960's variety shows and films such as Don Knott's The Love God?, Brevard is more than an ex-Playboy Bunny. Having appeared in more than 30 television shows and associated with the likes of such glamorous Hollywood stars as Betty Davis and Lana Turner, Aleshia is a pioneer and an icon among actors. Brevard affirms, "Not every 77 year old actress gets such an opportunity. Myrna's story is so timely. It can bring so much understanding to the viewers, it's insightful, it's fresh, it humorous and above all else, it's truthful."
Inspired by the real life experiences of this much anticipated project's creator and star, Marlo Bernier, formally Mark Bernier (Angels in America, Cecil B DeMented), this half hour dramedy speaks with a voice yet to be shown on television and shows the universal nature of the human experience. Bernier sees the image of transgender people in popular media as being relegated to the peripheries of society such as drug addicts and prostitutes. Myrna shows life day to day for one transsexual woman in a way few other works have dared to do.
The show follows Myna (Marlo Bernier) who after a successful career in front of the camera and stage, sacrificed everything when she finally confronted her true gender identity and transitioned from male-to-female. Myrna struggles to find work as an actress and deals with the drama of her friends' reactions coming to terms with her life-altering decision.
Just 8 days after the launch of a FanBacked funding campaign for the Myrna pilot, the project has already acquired 55 percent of its eventual funding goal as well as 5 thousand followers on Twitter, 10 thousand YouTube views and over 5 thousand likes on their Myrna Facebook fan page.
