"Education for Veterans and Transitioning Military often times cannot be a 4+ year process. When leaving the military, you realize quickly you must replace the pay and benefits" continues Mrs. Unangst. "Often times service members want to apply their knowledge to a trade, but don't have years to commit. The Virginia Beach Rescue Squads have solved all of those challenges, plus allows that feeling of service to continue."
The Virginia Beach Rescue Squads driving focus is to empower, equip, and employ its volunteers. Its volunteer program ensures the student and future employer of the readiness of the worker. Consider a future as an EMT. This is one of the most wanted skills sets across the country today. No matter where you are in the country, you become a job seeker that is in-demand.
Virginia Rescue Squads are committed to providing intensive hands-on training. "Our team of dedicated instructors has years of industry experience to pass onto our volunteers. The program represents the EMT industry's best practices. Our instructors prepare students to be highly trained technicians for the thousands of volunteer opportunities and jobs."
The demands for volunteers have grown over the years and the need for additional members has grown along with it. The Virginia Beach Volunteer Rescue Squads responds to more than 40,000 calls each year.
Virginia Beach Rescue Squads have two types of members: operational and support. Operational members, from EMT to paramedic, commit to the same training and certifications as professionals, and agree to serve 48 hours a month. Training is offered through the city for free, but members are then expected to volunteer with us for a minimum of two years.
Support members commit to serving 12 hours a month in different capacities, including office, facility, fund drive, and special event work.
"We have partnered with many fine educational and volunteer institutions across the country for several years. Few if any offered the immediate training, collapsed time frames, and opportunity of the Virginia Beach Rescue Squads" states Michele Unangst. "It was the innovation of education and their commitment to Veterans that made this partnership happen!"
