VLC for Android 2.0 Released with Network Playback Feature Added Yet with Permissions Reduced

VideoLAN has officially released the newest version of its featured product VLC media player for Android. VLC for Android version 2.0 introduces new features like network browsing while managing to reduce the number of permissions it needs.

Shenzhen, Guangdong -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/22/2016 -- VLC media player is a free and open source cross-platform multimedia player that plays most multimedia files as well as discs, devices and network streaming protocols. In addition to VLC for Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu, VideoLAN also offers VLC for portable devices: VLC for Android and VLC for iOS. To better Android user experience, VideoLAN rolled out VLC for Android V2.0 which supports local network browsing and is added with many other features, while at the same time reducing permissions it needs to play media files nicely on Android device.

The newly-released VLC for Android 2.0 performs well in tablets as the upgrade brings a pop-up video window allowing tablet owners to multitask. When using VLC for Android 2.0, people are able to find movie file on home media server as version 2.0 is added with network browsing support. DLNA/UPnP, Windows network sharing, FTP, SFTP, and NFS protocols are all supported by version 2.0. More amazingly, the app is able to automatically find subtitles via the network. Video playlists, multi-window support, and a playback history also made it into this major release.

Apart from adding features, the upgrade also reduces many permissions the previous version needed to play media files smoothly on Android device. The permissions have been scaled back in this release with the only remaining one being "access to media files".

VLC for Android is now a unified package across phones, tablets, and Android TV devices, and most importantly, it is still free. People can free download and install the latest version of VLC for Android to experience the updated features without paying a single penny.

As for Blu-ray disc playing, it is true that VLC can play common Blu-ray disc. However, when it comes to encrypted Blu-ray discs, VLC is at its wit's end. Such being the case, people should switch to VLC alternative like Leawo Blu-ray Player to play those Blu-ray discs, and the Blu-ray player can also play other kinds of media files such as Blu-ray folder/ISO image files, DVD disc/folder/ISO image files, HD video files (HD MP4, HD AVI, HD MKV, etc.), common video files (MP4, MOV, AVI, MKV, etc.), and audio files (MP3, AAC, WMA, etc.). Like VLC media player, Leawo Blu-ray Player is also free of charge. Leawo Blu-ray Player is available for Windows and Mac users, but it doesn't have an Android or iOS version.

VLC for Android V2.0 is now downloadable from VideoLAN official website and Google Play for free.
