Palmetto Bay, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/02/2013 -- Westminster Christian School, a Miami Private School located in Palmetto Bay, has announced that its women’s volleyball team was ranked 38 in the nation and second in the state of Florida by MaxPreps, a prominent source on high school sports. This is a significant achievement that reflects the school high standard of performance in all academic areas.
Indeed, this is one of several instances this past year in which the esteemed school was recognized for its excellence. During the 58th Annual State of Florida Science and Engineering Fair this past spring, all of five of Westminster’s participating students received an for their contribution in a particular scientific division. Given that less than half of the 890 students who attend each year win in any category, this denotes that Westminster Christian School received a disproportionate amount of awards for its size.
Furthermore, several of its students received recognition during the prestigious Silver Knight Awards ceremony hosted by the Miami Herald, which identifies students that have attained academic excellence (3.2 GPA minimum) while contributing significantly to their school or community. This prestigious recognition came shortly after several other events that highlighted Westminster students’ academic or humanitarian accomplishments, including the Shell Key West Challenge Fishing Tournament, which raises awareness of diabetes and helps benefit the Diabetes Research Institute.
All of these notable accomplishments across a variety of academic areas testify to the efficacy Westminster’s founding principles, which explicitly emphasize a Reformed Christian education, academic excellence, and preparation for post-secondary education. Subsequently, a significant proportion of its student body performs favorably in Advanced Placement Programs and the SATs, and many of its alumni have continued their post-secondary education in prestigious universities.
