WINK: A Mind-Bending, Multi-Layered, Retro-Futurist, Romantic Indie Comedy

Paris, France -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/10/2014 -- It’s not easy to create a movie that combines zany, off-the-wall satire with a meaningful message. But writer/director Temi Lopez has managed to do just that.

It’s WINK, an indie film that can be best described as a mind-bending, multi-layered, retro-futurist, romantic satire with numerous twists and turns. The screenplay, written by Lopez, is a brilliant piece of work and RJ Mitte, one of the stars in Breaking Bad, is cast as Zak, one of the lead characters.

Filming and production, however, may come to a halt, pending additional funding.

“Although this a great film, it’s not the typical run-of-the mill project,” said Lopez, who has directed films with Richard Chamberlain, Malcolm McDowell, Jennifer Tilly, Lesley Ann Warren, Richard Beymer, Tracy Nelson and Elias Kotea. “That’s actually what makes it so good, the unpredictability and the surprise elements.

“So we may need to develop public interested on our own. That's why we decided to approach the people whom we think will ‘get’ this kind of flick.”

In other words, indie film enthusiasts who are looking for something different and/or investors who see the potential of this project.

Toward that end, Lopez and the WINK production team have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise $25,000 for securing the location, sets, costumes and special effects. The Indiegogo page, which includes film trailers, can be viewed at www.indiegogo.com/projects/wink--2 . Donations of any amount are welcome.

Here’s a snapshot of the plot: Zak, a young cybernetic genius, comes to Paris with his parents to assist the money-raising party for the “Bubble – a Trillionaires Paradise.” This invention, which would degrade the world’s resources for selfish purposes of the rich, is foiled by Zak, who falls in love with Cassandra, an irresistibly charismatic lady married to Hubert, host of the party.

The story builds up to a vertiginous climax, leading to surprising revelations about humanity, the nature of reality and the power of love.

“Our goal is to debut WINK in one of the film festivals that actively seek this kind of sophisticated entertainment – such as Cannes, Sundance, Berlin, Venice, Toronto or Montreal – and be a hit & find distribution in the US and Europe,” said Lopez. “The film is unusual in that it has a strong and meaningful message, so we also hope to get the interest of an international seller to help us release the film on a larger scale.”

In addition to Mitte, prominent roles in the film are played by Tonia Sotiropoulou (Cassandra), Robert Carradine, Emma De Caunes, Gil Alma, Marco Gambino, Philippe De Grossouvre, Judith Freiha and Christopher Tram.
