1 in 4 Men Above 30 Years Old Have Low Levels of Testosterone, Study Shows

Orlando, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/09/2014 -- Based on the November issue of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1 in 4 men over 30 has low testosterone levels. Basically, as men age they are most likely to experience a decrease in testosterone levels which could to various symptoms such as decreased muscle development, low sex drive and stamina. Moreover, the low level of testosterone in men could also lead to erectile dysfunction, depression, osteoporosis and mood swings.

"Low levels of testosterone impact many aspects of male physiology. This is particularly significant because the ongoing aging of the U.S. male population is likely to cause the number of men suffering from androgen deficiency to increase appreciably,” Andre B. Araujo, researcher, New England Institutes in Watertown, Mass.

In the study conducted, 24% of the respondents had low total testosterone and 11 percent had low levels of free testosterone. Furthermore, 5.6% of the respondents in the study experienced symptomatic androgen deficiency. According to the researchers of the study, they estimate that by 2025, there may be as many as 6.5 million men from 30 to 79 years old with symptomatic androgen deficiency which is considered as a 38% increase from that of the year 2000.

According to other sources, testosterone boosters such as Tribulus Terrestris could help bring back the level of testosterone. However, it is highly suggested that this it will not quickly bring back the level of testosterone but rather help you gradually improve it back to normal depending on other factors such as age, health condition and lifestyle.

“Testosterone plays a big role throughout a man's life. The hormone is the prime driver of puberty, responsible for the deepening of the voice, the development of muscles, and the growth of pubic hair. Without testosterone, there would be no beards or mustaches since it regulates facial hair. Sperm production falls under testosterone's control. In sum, it's the hormone that makes a man a man, and it is what gives men their appetite for sex.” – Matt McMillen, WebMD Magazine
