The young generation, which discovered liquid soup as a better alternative for hand cleaning to bar soap, gradually replaced bar soap with body wash/shower gel due to its ease of use and higher quality. However, it is worth mentioning that Iran remained a major bar soap consumer country. This simple product accounted for 72% of value sales of bath and shower in 2013.
Pakshoo and Paxan remained the leaders in bath and shower products in 2013, with value shares of 15% and 14%, respectively. The two companies benefited from very well-established and trusted brand images, and offered affordable products to Iranian consumers. They also had very strong distribution networks in place, which enabled them to target consumers even in distant rural areas.

The decline in popularity of bar soap is expected to continue over the forecast period. More modern categories, such as body wash/shower gel and intimate washes, in contrast will likely register impressive growth rates due to their low bases and increased awareness about these products.
