Boston, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/11/2014 -- Cider production is not regulated by quotas in Belarus. The government's regulation is only in setting up excises for products. Until 1 September 2011, excise duty for cider/perry was zero. From this date, new excise duties were set; however they are significantly lower than the excise duty for spirit-based RTDs or beer. Excise duties on cider/perry in Belarus depend on whether the cider is grape or non-grape. In order to stimulate the domestic manufacturing of cider from local raw materials, excises for non-grape cider is more than three times lower than excises for grape cider. The excise duty for both non-grape and grape cider for 2013 grew by 34-35% (end of 2013 compared with end of 2012), much higher than the rate of inflation (16.5% in 2013).

Competitive Landscape

Lidskoe Pivo OAO led cider/perry sales in 2013 with a 57% share of total volume sales, followed by Minski Zavod Vinogradnyh Vin ZAO with 37%. Lidskoe Pivo OAO entered the category in December 2010, switching from the manufacture of spirit-based RTDs to cider. The company became the category leader in 2011, and remained so in 2012 and 2013.
