An automotive starter motor is a device which converts the electrical energy stored in the battery into mechanical energy in order to crank or start the engine. The starter motor delivers the mechanical energy necessary to rotate the crankshaft for a given number of cycles. When the crankshaft starts rotating, the engine begins the process of combustion. The starter is able to disengage once the engine begins to run on its own power.
