In 2011, Greece's smoking population continued to be higher than the western European average despite the reduction of consumer disposable income due to the economic crisis which negatively affected tobacco. Sales of cigars saw very high losses as even those who could still afford to pay for luxurious treats were reluctant to do so in the pessimistic climate of 2011.
