In 2011, smoking prevalence in Norway continued to decline. This was a result of the effective measures adopted by the Norwegian government and the Norwegian Health Directorate. These measures included a retail point-of sale display ban, a ban on smoking in public places, annual increases in excise duty, the introduction of graphic health warnings on cigarette packs and the launch of various campaigns highlighting the dangers of smoking.
