The improved macroeconomic conditions which led to higher disposable incomes, especially among middle to upper-income consumers, helped accelerate the sales of vitamins and dietary supplements in 2012. The growth was also supported by the rising awareness to take preventive action to counter disease by improving the immune system. The unstable climate also played a role in pushing growth, as more consumers took vitamins and dietary supplements to prevent from catching cold and flu.
