Just Released: "Fish and Seafood in Brazil"
In 2012, fish and seafood saw a volume increase of 7% to reach 2 million tonnes and a per capita consumption of 8.6kg, which is lower than the 12kg recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The head of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture (MPA) credits this rise in consumption to the increase in disposable incomes and the efforts of the Brazilian government to develop fisheries and aquaculture.
