The Revolution of 2011 decimated sales of footwear. Both women's and men's footwear shrank considerably in volume and value terms as a result of a crashing economy and regular port closures. Most Egyptians postponed footwear purchases unless absolutely necessary and there was a noticeable downturn in the sales of standard and premium international brands as most people preferred to buy economy brands.
