The Polish cigarette industry experiences regular tax rises, leading to ever-increasing cigarette prices. In 2012, new excise tax included a fixed tax of PLN170.97 per 1,000 sticks, an increase on the PLN158.36 per 1,000 sticks levied in 2011, as well as an ad valorem excise of 31.41%, a figure which has remained unchanged since 2009.
