New Market Study Published: Cigarettes in the Netherlands
The declining volume trend in 2011 continued in 2012. Higher taxes were introduced in 2012, despite objections from the tobacco companies, as well as trade associations for different outlets. The average price of cigarettes increased again in 2012, leading to a continued decline in volume sales for most cigarette brands. Nevertheless, growth in 2012 continued to be positive in value terms, as price increases were strong enough to compensate for the lower volume sales.
