Cafes/Bars in Japan - New Report Available
Although it was expected that cafes/bars would grow in 2012, one year after the big earthquake and the mood of voluntary self-restraint (jishuku), cafes/bars declined by 2% in current value terms in 2012. The contraction was attributable to the decline of bars/pubs, which accounted for a 79% share of value sales in cafes/bars in 2012. Whilst competitive price became less attractive in other consumer foodservice categories, consumers still put the first priority on price when choosing bars/pubs.
