Population ageing remained a major driver of demand for spectacles in 2013, as the fast growing older segment of the population is more likely to suffer from a range of vision problems. However, this is not limited to only older Canadians, as the use of spectacles among younger adults, children and teenagers also noted an increase. To a large extent this rise among younger consumers is underpinned by increased use of computers, smartphones and other devices with electronic screens.
