Vacuum cleaners posted volume growth of 7% in 2013. The penetration of vacuum cleaners continued to be low in India. This was because labour remained cheap. Therefore, consumers preferred to use the services of a maid, which tend to be available at a much lower price than in other countries. Vacuum cleaners remained a "push" product, wherein retailers had to try hard to convince consumers to buy.
